We are Motor Body Services (Salford) Limited, Company No. 00886732, VAT No. GB 146489337, registered at 23 Cottenham Lane, Salford, Manchester M7 1TH. We are the data controller for any personal data we collect through this website, by phone, by email or in person at our yard.

What data we collect

From our website forms — name, email, phone, vehicle details, enquiry text, and anything else you choose to include in a message.
Automatically when you visit the site, if you accept our cookie banner — IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and pages you visit, collected via Google Analytics for basic site analytics only. No advertising cookies or cross-site tracking are used.
When you phone us — your phone number, and the details of what you tell us during the call.
When you visit the yard in person — normal interaction data (e.g. your name and contact details if you ask us to come back to you on something).

How we use it

We use your data to reply to your enquiry, to complete the transaction you've started (buying a car, selling a car, enquiring about a part, or a fleet enquiry), to meet our legal obligations (HMRC records, fraud prevention, accident records), and to improve this website.

Lawful bases

Consent — when you submit a form, you consent to us contacting you about your enquiry.
Contract — when you're partway through buying or selling with us, we process your data to fulfil that contract.
Legal obligation — we keep transaction records for HMRC and regulatory purposes for the legally required period.
Legitimate interest — responding to general enquiries, operating the business, and improving our website.

Who we share with

We share data with a small number of third parties, only where it's necessary to deliver the service you've asked for or to meet our legal obligations:

IAA — for listing, bidding and selling vehicles at auction.
eBay — for parts sales through our eBay shop.
DVLA — for vehicle enquiry lookups when you enter a reg number on our valuation form. (No personal data is shared; only the reg number.)
HMRC and our accountants — for tax, VAT and statutory record-keeping.
Our IT providers — website hosting is provided by Netlify Inc.
Google Analytics — website usage statistics, only if you accept our cookie banner.

We never sell your data and we never share it for third-party advertising purposes.

How long we keep it

Enquiry data — up to 2 years after last contact, then deleted.
Transaction records — 6 years, to comply with HMRC requirements.
Website analytics — aggregated only, with no personal data retained long-term.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access the data we hold about you, ask for corrections, ask for deletion (subject to our legal-retention obligations), object to processing, and request portability. Email info@motorbodyservices.co.uk to exercise any of these rights.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113 if you are unhappy with how we've handled your data.

Cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use this site (pages viewed, general location, device type). This only runs if you click Accept on the cookie banner — if you click Reject, or don't respond, no analytics cookies are set. You can change your mind at any time by clearing your browser's cookies for this site, which will show the banner again.

Google Analytics data is processed by Google Ireland Limited under Google's own privacy policy, available at policies.google.com/privacy. We do not run any advertising cookies, social media pixels, or cross-site tracking.
