Things people ask us

What if my car doesn't sell?

After four weeks, you can collect it from our yard or pay another £99 for another four weeks on the auction. The original £99 is non-refundable either way.

If it's not selling, we'll usually suggest lowering the reserve before the window closes — it's always your call.

Who sets the reserve — you or me?

We propose a reserve based on your car's real market value — we've been setting auction reserves for 78 years, so we know what works. You agree it with us before it goes live.

If it's not attracting bids during the four weeks, you can ask us to lower it any time. Just call the auctions team and they'll adjust it.

Do you collect my car?

No — you drop the car at our yard. We're at 23 Cottenham Lane, Salford M7 1TH. You can drive it if it's roadworthy, or arrange your own transport if it isn't.

Keeping collection out of the £99 is what lets us price it so low. If we had to collect, it wouldn't be a £99 service.

What kind of cars do you take?

Any car worth around £1,000 or more that's running or genuinely driveable. If it's below that threshold, auction isn't the right route for you and we'll tell you honestly during the free valuation.

We take every insurance category — Cat S, N, D, X, and uncategorised cars (regular used cars with no write-off status). Cat A and Cat B are crush-only by law and we don't list them as whole cars.

How do I know what my car is worth?

That's what the free valuation is for. Based on your reg, mileage, condition and any insurance category, we give you a realistic number before you commit to the £99. No pressure to proceed.

Will my personal details be shown on the auction?

No. Only the vehicle and its details go on the auction. Buyers deal with us, not you. Your name and address stay private.

Is there anything else to pay after the listing fee?

Not to us. The £99 covers listing, four weeks of auction time, paperwork and access to the buyer base.

How fast do I get paid after it sells?

Once the winning buyer has settled with IAA and collected the car, we process your payment within a few working days via BACS transfer to your nominated account.

Run by the same Salford family since 1948. VRA and National Salvage Group members. 1,500+ cars sold every year through IAA. Your car is in experienced hands.
